When I see the blood, I will pass over you.
Exodus 12:13

The story of the Exodus of the children of Israel from Egypt is truly a beautiful and powerful picture of Jehovah. It was then, at the last of the 10 plagues, that He instituted what we have come to know as "Passover". In preparation for the final plague, the children of Israel were to have a yearling male lamb, without blemish. They were to slay it and apply the blood to the doorposts and lentil. They were to roast the lamb and eat all of it, along with bitter herbs & unleavened bread (bread made in such a hurry that it had no time to rise and thus did not have leaven included as an ingredient). Exodus 12-15 specifically covers passover observances.

In all four gospels we read that Jesus and His disciples observed passover. In fact, the "Last Supper" was a passover seder. The unleavened bread and fruit of the vine are, for the believer, the two most important elements of the passover seder, which are now to be done not only in remembrance of deliverance from the bondage of slavery in Egypt through the blood of a lamb, but now in remembrance of deliverance of slavery to sin through the sinless blood of the Lamb of God, our Messiah!

In modern vernacular, none of us wants to be "passed over"! But in the days of the Exodus, when it meant the death angel not taking the life of the firstborn of the household, being "passed over" was a good thing indeed. Today, if the blood of Jesus is applied to our heart through faith, He will "pass over" us when the time of eternal judgment for sin comes. And praise the LORD, "all who receive Him need never fear"!

Christ our Redeemer died on the cross,
Died for the sinner, paid all his due.
All who receive Him need never fear,
Yes, He will pass, will pass over you!

Chiefest of sinners, Jesus will save;
As He has promised, so He will do;
Oh, sinner, hear Him, trust in His Word,
Then He will pass, will pass over you!

Judgment is coming, all will be there,
Who have rejected, who have refused.
Oh, sinner, hasten, let Jesus in,
And He will pass, will pass over you!

O great compassion! O boundless love!
Jesus hath power, Jesus is true;
All who believe are safe from the storm,
Oh, He will pass, will pass over you!
When I see the blood, when I see the blood,
When I see the blood, I will pass, I will pass over you!

*For Today*: Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 26:17-30; Mark 14:12-26; Hebrews 9:28

Is the blood applied to your heart? Have you by faith accepted the Lamb of God as sacrifice for your sin?
