Mosie Lister, (1921-Present)

Be merciful unto me, O LORD: for I cry unto thee daily.
For thou, LORD, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
Psalm 86:3 & 5

In Hebrew, the word for grace gets its root meaning from "favor, mercy, kindness, and graciousness." Grace is not only an attribute of God through God the Son in the New Testament. In fact, grace is first mentioned in Genesis when "Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." (Genesis 6:8) In Exodus 34:6 and 7, one of the great attributes revealed about the LORD is that He is gracious, and in today's theme verse the psalmist David is doubtlessly reminded of this great truth (Psalm 86:3 & 15). As God reveal Himself as gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in mercy and truth, so David appealed to God's revealed character by crying, "Be gracious unto me!"

The ultimate display of God's great grace is found in the Gift of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ, given for our salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ is the complete revelation of grace from God according to John 1:14. Indeed, salvation itself is a gift from God (John 3:16) since we are saved "by grace...through faith" (Ephesians 2:8 & 9).

As a child, I was taught an acronym to help remember the meaning of "Grace":

Yes, on account of the terrible price of Jesus' sacrifice made at Calvary on our behalf, we are made blessed indeed! Thank You, LORD, for Your wonderful grace!

Mosie Lister, a native of Cochran, Georgia, is best known as one of the most beloved and prolific songwriters in the South. Though known mostly for his songwriting, he was also a singer; but he soon gave up singing to concentrate on his songwriting. In 1953, he founded his own Mosie Lister Publishing, which later merged with Lillenas Publishing. His songs have been loved, sung, and recorded by many.

Many times I'm tried and tested
As I travel day by day;
Oft I meet with pain and sorrow,
And there's trouble in the way;
But I have a sweet assurance That my soul the LORD will lead,
And in Him there is strength for ev'ry need!

Oh His grace is sufficient for me;
And His love is abundant and free;
And what joy fills my soul
Just to know, just to know
That His grace is sufficient for me!

When the tempter brings confusion
And I don't know what to do,
On my knees I turn to Jesus
For I know He'll see me through
Then despair is changed to victory,
Every doubt just melts away,
And in Him there is hope for every day!

Yes, God's grace is sufficient for me;
And His love is abundant and free;
And what joy fills my soul
Just to know, just to know
That His grace is sufficient for me!

*For Today*: Psalm 136:1; Isaiah 55:6 & 7; Micah 7:18-20; Romans 2:4; II Corinthians 12:9

The Hebrew word for "mercy" literally means "to get inside another's skin"...to be completely identified with that person. This is what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us. Now He asks that we demonstrate this same quality to others, and to tell them of His great mercy.

MUSIC a work in progress!
